We have been gone but, we are back and were talking about Thanksgiving. DON'T EXPERIMENT ON THANKSGIVING.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Speaker 1:

Because ain't nothing but a cheap bang baby To low down G. So we crazy Death grown gets the label that pays man Unfatable. So please don't try to fake this. But I'm back to the lecture at hand. Back to the lecture or legend at hand.

Speaker 2:

It's been some time so for those of y'all Good, good, good, but we still good.

Speaker 1:

Sure, for those of y'all that are returning or tuning back in with you what's up, what's good with you? I hope life has been treating you well.

Speaker 2:

How has it been treating you?

Speaker 1:

Oh, we don't need to talk about that.

Speaker 2:

OK.

Speaker 1:

Maybe not on this episode, but Shambu Shambu. What would that episode be without me giving y'all a little bit of an anecdote to start that episode?

Speaker 2:

Wouldn't be nothing but a G thing.

Speaker 1:

It would be. Other podcasts would be over there. You know what I mean. Stop being a hater, not being a hater.

Speaker 2:

I'm just saying the reason why we do what we do over here is because it makes sense. I don't know what you do over there. I don't listen, but that don't mean don't listen.

Speaker 1:

That's what people listen to.

Speaker 2:

I believe they do.

Speaker 1:

I think it did numbers. It will do numbers if I would ever, or if I bring it back. But are you on the hiatus? I don't know what we on. I've taken a break.

Speaker 2:

We ain't good good, but we still good.

Speaker 1:

You notice, I've taken a break from social media. I've taken a break from a lot of things.

Speaker 2:

Oh, that makes sense, but not this.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, we need to record, because we record and we don't publish any episodes.

Speaker 2:

We got a lot of episodes in the vault. Deji's just waiting for us to have more episodes in the vault so he can post all of them.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's consistency.

Speaker 2:

Correct.

Speaker 1:

Consistently, because then, if y'all getting it, y'all can spread the good word and you could just tell everybody that these motherfuckers need to get paid for it. But back to the lecture or the legend at hand. I don't know if we've done an episode on Thanksgiving, but little do y'all know, yemi and I. I would say well, she is very partial to October Halloween. That festivities Me. I'm a Thanksgiving motherfucker. It falls around the time of my birthday. It's one of my favorite holidays where I get to eat, I get to chill and I get to be around some of my favorite people, which happen to be my family. But back in the day, because me and Yemi were trying to have some sense of normalcy or maybe I was I used to make the Thanksgiving dinner. Yes, so when Yemi be telling you I don't know how to cook and I'd be pregnant?

Speaker 2:

What did you? You used to?

Speaker 1:

Yes, make what.

Speaker 2:

I used to make.

Speaker 1:

Everything.

Speaker 2:

No, the word make coming from your mouth is confusing me, because you're using it in a sentence as if you're the one who was making the food. I was making the food, but what she was doing was boiling stuff At that age, please, please.

Speaker 1:

You see how yummy, you see how I'm going to let you tell a story.

Speaker 2:

I want to tell a story.

Speaker 1:

You see how your haters will be your motivators as a young child, because people in our family, specifically Well, I just said make, because everything came out of box.

Speaker 2:

I'm really confused.

Speaker 1:

So how? What is it? What is it? You're prepared. Anyways, I would make Thanksgiving dinner.

Speaker 2:

I would make everything mashed potatoes the stuffing cranberry cornbread, everything Out of box.

Speaker 1:

Yemi, how are you making cornbread? You going to go to the fucking farm and grind the mill.

Speaker 2:

No, ok, then Excuse me, I'm going to get cornmeal, is that not what?

Speaker 1:

I just said. No, no, no I said you going to go to the farm, you going to get the cornmeal, you going to mix in with the starch and the flour and then you going to make yourself some cornbread.

Speaker 2:

No, this is what you do you buy cornmeal, you buy flour, you buy butter, you buy milk, you buy eggs. So what is it? What is it?

Speaker 1:

What is the difference? What is it, what is it? What is it, what is?

Speaker 2:

the difference.

Speaker 1:

What is the difference for me taking the Jiffy corn pop, which is corn box, cornmeal box? Ok, what's the difference between that, doing everything you just said?

Speaker 2:

Well, I want to figure out where this story lands, so I won't interject anymore. I'm going to figure out where this plain lands and I'm going to just sit here quiet, correct.

Speaker 1:

So I would make everything, I would do the one, two, cook it all day, because typically before this my mom would go to work at Dominic.

Speaker 2:

Throwback.

Speaker 1:

She'd be there about two or three, my dad would be.

Speaker 2:

If y'all know about Dominic's, press the like button on this video For real for this episode. Oh.

Speaker 1:

Yes, this episode Thumbs up. Write a positive review. Shout out to.

Speaker 2:

Dom.

Speaker 1:

I said that because I've been editing a lot of YouTube videos lately, so also make sure you watch our YouTube. So the day would go. This is typically the only day that my dad would wake up early. For other people, To do anything Correct, correct.

Speaker 2:

Correct.

Speaker 1:

But at the end of the day and inevitably still was for him because he was going to eat the turkey.

Speaker 2:

So my dad, would wake up early the only time you see him wake up to cook.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so my dad would wake up early, about 5, 6 o'clock. The turkey would already be prepared because, well, shambu, me or my mom would prepare the chicken by putting all the seasonings.

Speaker 2:

Is it chicken or is it turkey? My? Part the turkey we would do all that stuff the day before.

Speaker 1:

So then all my dad has to do is come in, preheat the oven, turn it on, and then he'd do his little one, two, check the da, da da, check the turkey.

Speaker 2:

And every year.

Speaker 1:

Every year. Like the turkey was dry, dried in a mud fuck, it still is dry. Well, he has stopped cooking it now, but I'm glad he has, because the turkey wasn't doing all that much. Let's be real.

Speaker 2:

Right right.

Speaker 1:

So then I would start cooking about, I would say, around 11 noonish, would not get done to about 4 o'clock.

Speaker 2:

I thought we wouldn't start cooking until mom got back.

Speaker 1:

No, no, no. I learned my lesson because remember the one time where he was at, I was cooking until like 7 or 8 o'clock and y'all was like there's your, where can we eat, where can we eat? And I made the cornbread late and I rushed the cornbread and then I had to remake the cornbread.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so that was it. Because it didn't taste right, it was burnt, it wasn't cooked up, something was wrong with it. Yeah, exactly. And then I tried a little funky recipe instead of yeah, following the box, because that's what you do usually no, you just follow the box.

Speaker 1:

I started and I started now Experimenting. That's the problem.

Speaker 2:

The problem is people started experimenting instead of just following the recipe. But that's there for a reason. Ok, you don't experiment on Thanksgiving. Y'all remember that one video where the girl fucked up the mac and cheese. I don't know what she did, but the auntie was like you don't experiment on Thanksgiving If you know you got to cook something for Thanksgiving and you want to try a new recipe. You do that beforehand Any other holiday, beforehand Easter, somebody's birthday, that's before Thanksgiving, fourth of July, juneteenth. You don't wait for Thanksgiving to experiment with the food, you don't. She said you don't fuck up the mac and cheese. And since you did all that, you got to wash all the dishes.

Speaker 1:

So I would do that and I would do that. That wasn't a particularly special Thanksgiving, right, but I would do that and I would do that. Right after that, I cook, I do my one. Two, but I would do all that just to hear my mom and well, specifically our mom complain about how the cooking was not on par to hers. So then I was like, well, that's not what you do.

Speaker 1:

And every year, like clockwork, she's like you could have done this, you could have done this. So the one day she have off a year by choice, keep in mind, you buy choice. We not over here like, hey, mom, wednesday are going to be ready. We not those type of people we used to be when we were children, sure, but since we've gone back here as adults, no, we just be eating. When we eat, like clockwork, my mom would tell me that the cooking is not all that right and it gives a lack of appreciation. One, because you didn't have to cook for her entire day. Two, I don't think I've ever said that mom's cookie was never all that in a bag of chips, since I've been eating her food for now almost 28, about to be 29 years of life. So I say that because she already got a lot of shade that she throwing her way to her own son.

Speaker 1:

But I even realized it because, as me and my sister have stopped cooking Thanksgiving, which now is going on year four of us not preparing a meal at all our family typically now caters, shouts out to growth. We'd love to see black excellence, black bourgeoisie. Our brother will have a whole catering this year. We're doing a potluck, still not making shit.

Speaker 2:

Just make sure, if you're not making anything, and you're not bringing anything, you send me half the money for these banana pudding cupcakes.

Speaker 1:

Why would I? I told you what I want. I want pound cake and ice cream. I don't know.

Speaker 2:

Well, I don't know where you're going to get that from. Niggas is talking about it. Are you going to buy it and bring it over there?

Speaker 1:

I did last year. I'm just asking Remember the year I brought pound cake and nobody touched it?

Speaker 2:

but then, as I was about to take it, as you're about to leave, they say you don't bring stuff over to people's house and then leave it, and that's why this time, when I bring them banana pudding cupcakes, I'm going to make sure I stash a couple at the house first. I'm like, oh yeah, y'all can have these, and they're going to be like it's supposed to be two dozen.

Speaker 1:

Well, it's supposed to be some for me Exactly, and that's why I learned the hard way. Don't bring food to people's houses.

Speaker 2:

Don't bring food to people's houses, and I'm the type but that's true, though I mean I don't care about the like that's a ghetto edit.

Speaker 1:

Let's save it.

Speaker 2:

That's a ghetto intellectual question.

Speaker 1:

Let's save it.

Speaker 2:

Let's save it. Let's save it for that.

Speaker 1:

We just gave over the ghetto intellectual circle back. We'll have to remember. But now, as we have Thanksgiving at my brother's house, which he usually has people over, something that he has always wanted to do have everybody host Thanksgiving and have everybody come to his crib, because, for whatever reason, my brother don't like being out the house. So now we do that, we get it catered, we do all these things. My mom still complained about the cooking, and we all know that the cooking is fire. So now I'm starting to realize that Shorty just got a problem with being grateful.

Speaker 2:

Hold on being thankful.

Speaker 1:

Ooh, even better. But I did grateful because it's nothing but a G. But, like I said, shorty's got a wrong. She just does not understand what it is to be thankful. And that that inevitably leads into one of my favorite holidays, not because of the food, but really because of the community and what we used to do but since we've gotten older we haven't really done it is that we used to go to party. To party, and that was one of my favorite things. My brother would come and get us.

Speaker 2:

Are you thinking about Thanksgiving or Christmas? It's both. We've done them for both.

Speaker 1:

But typically during the holidays we just go to parties, house hopping parties. It doesn't matter where. It is Chicago South Side, I know that's also Chicago. But you know South Suburbs, even if it's out here. We've gone to Naperville Joints. You know, all around the world we see our people. All around Chicago we see our parents' people. And then I always go back to the only Thanksgiving we actually traveled for, which was a family reunion when we went to Atlanta.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, but that was a long time ago. That was a long time ago.

Speaker 1:

So I say all those things because it's the season, it's that time of the year.

Speaker 2:

And we're talking about Thanksgiving.

Speaker 1:

Thanksgiving.

Speaker 2:

What's this episode going to be called? Giving Thanks? I don't know.

Speaker 1:

It's a good idea. That's a really I don't know.

Speaker 2:

Get rid of the dry ass. Turkey, that's a good one. Because one thing about it I'm not put in turkey on my plate. If I put turkey on my plate, it's really just a formality. No, I put turkey on my plate every year, if I put turkey on my plate. It's really just a formality.

Speaker 1:

I'm there for the sides. The sides are the main reason I put turkey on my plate every year. No.

Speaker 2:

If I put turkey on my plate, it's really just a formality, and I'm not one of those people. Let's talk about Thanksgiving. That's what we're talking about today. Let's talk about Thanksgiving. I'm not one of those people that feels like they can't go without eating the whole day just so they can save room and their stomach for things to get better.

Speaker 1:

Let's stop. First of all, you've been eating like you got five stomachs lately, Lately.

Speaker 2:

I don't know what that's about. What it is about me, but I be hungry all the time. Now I think I'm just going through a change in life. Is that what it is?

Speaker 1:

Maybe. Well, some might say you're pregnant, but that's not one of my business. I'm not pregnant.

Speaker 2:

And if I was, I would kill it. I'm gonna kill it, I'm gonna kill it. Yay, I'm no shame.

Speaker 1:

I'm not saying that for shame.

Speaker 2:

But damn God damn.

Speaker 1:

As soon as.

Speaker 2:

I find out. Excuse me, shorty, can we eat into this motherfucker? Not everything got to be. I'm just saying I'm not beating around the bush, I don't have time to be raising anybody.

Speaker 1:

I am just saying let's eat.

Speaker 2:

I'm keeping these straights. I don't have time to be raising anybody's children.

Speaker 1:

So I'm just saying you can eat into it, shorty.

Speaker 2:

I don't know why I be so hungry, but I've been exercising, I've been going to the gym, so maybe it's a little bit of that. I haven't been consistent, but I've been going. But I've been eating healthier. So it's not like I'm eating trash, eating five meals a day. It's more so like I just ate a salad with some salmon, I don't know.

Speaker 1:

The last couple of vacations you've been on my nerves with how much you wanna go eat. I'm like damn.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, because you don't wanna eat at all, I'll have to like beg you to let's go to breakfast. I have to start the meal. I have to start my morning with the.

Speaker 1:

Just because you have to start your day with a meal doesn't mean I.

Speaker 2:

Most people have to start their day with a meal, as opposed to what. Starting your day with work, opening your laptop and working.

Speaker 1:

But first of all, don't be disrespectful, I'm not being disrespectful.

Speaker 2:

I just know that's how you start your day.

Speaker 1:

No, and we know how that's been okay. First of all, I typically don't eat till about three, four o'clock in the afternoon, wild, I've never been a breakfast person per se.

Speaker 2:

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

Speaker 1:

Says who.

Speaker 2:

Says most people.

Speaker 1:

Man, I ain't hearing none of that, but you were talking about how you're not one of those people that I feel like you have to save.

Speaker 2:

Savor like save. I'm gonna eat breakfast, regardless of if it's Thanksgiving. I'm going to eat lunch too. If we're not eating until seven o'clock, I'll just eat and then take a break and then eat again when I'm hungry, which will probably be like 10, 12. And I'm only putting size on my plate, I'm not putting turkey on my plate.

Speaker 1:

So this is my thing. When I think about Thanksgiving, two things have always really annoyed me. One, the fact that now that our parents don't even worry about us making Thanksgiving dinner, that they still make a turkey. That shit. Always I would look at my I still look at my parents to this day. I'm like why the fuck are we about to have 10 pounds of turkey for the next three or four months, like we'd be turkeyed out Like my mom, be putting it in stew like be?

Speaker 2:

making sandwiches salad.

Speaker 1:

I'm like yo put that shit away. Dog Like, why is this bird so big? So that was the number one, but the second thing for me has always been that why the hell? Cause we're African right.

Speaker 2:

I mean, the last time I checked I was Nigerian.

Speaker 1:

Okay we're. Nigerian, african. Yes, we are part of the diaspora. I don't know about y'all, but typically I'm not used to having dinner before eight o'clock and you tell me one day out the year I got to act all fancy out of the see. This is a shit I don't like right. Like what do people say? They don't like forced interaction. I don't like forced anybody who knows me. I don't like forced timetables.

Speaker 2:

Like my mom For formality, forced formality. Like you know, we don't do shit like this. Why is today the day you want to do shit like this? Exactly, and that's always behind me. We all need to come together and stand up and pray and talk about what we thankful for. Oh, my pasty, pasty, macaroni and cheese. Exactly, pasty, macaroni and cheese.

Speaker 1:

I'm gonna move out of my way and nigga don't even show up on time to work. You want me to show up on time for a meal that happens one time a year, like, come on, make it make sense. You know what I'm saying?

Speaker 2:

I do think there is some onus to that If you aren't the type of people who see your family as often and y'all are coming together on Thanksgiving. But we live with our parents. We see them every day. Our brother, tunday, lives six minutes away from us. He has all his family over there. We see our family, honestly, probably too often, which is why we have some of the tensions and the things that we have now, because we are too close.

Speaker 1:

No, but I hear what you saying Because, I guarantee you, me and Yemi are in the process of buying homes. So by the time of this time next year, hopefully we both out of this jam. Yes, I guarantee you.

Speaker 2:

I'm gonna be gone regardless, if I don't like it, if I don't buy a house, I'm gonna still be gone.

Speaker 1:

Whatever, but I guarantee you that you will miss certain aspects of being near your family.

Speaker 2:

No, I mean, I already think about those things. I'm not saying that I won't miss that. I would just say that, at this age that I am now, I don't need to be living here, and I don't need to be here. What does?

Speaker 1:

this mean, because I like to talk about this all the time. You be a capper, all right, stage one capper Yemi does so much things, knowing that she doesn't have to do everything yourself, but when you live on your own, everything will be in every way.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, but I think checks and minuses, or what's it called Pluses and minuses, I think you know Pros and cons. Pros and cons, all the yings and the yanks of things, but what does that have to do with Thanksgiving? This is okay, we can have side gadgets Relax.

Speaker 1:

We only got like 20 minutes in that episode because I was gonna say regardless if it's Thanksgiving or any other day, right?

Speaker 2:

One thing that I will always do is, if I know that.

Speaker 1:

Yemi is cooking. I don't care if I live five miles away, you gonna find your way to eat what I'm cooking.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, to get a plate, because Yemi does that and I don't. Let's, let's, let's, let's say this Hold on, hold on hold on, you don't gonna stop me.

Speaker 1:

You don't gonna stop me, I'm not gonna stop you.

Speaker 2:

I'm just gonna interject real quick, put a pause in what you're saying.

Speaker 1:

Okay, all right.

Speaker 2:

And then I'm not putting stop, I'm just putting pause. I need you. I need you. Hey, come on, shorty, I don't want you to get your point. You would do that, but I'm not coming over to your house to eat your own food. So yeah, that's cause.

Speaker 1:

That's cause you feel like I don't know how to cook. That's what I feel. Everybody who's had my cooking has said it's been on point.

Speaker 2:

Who have you given your cooking to? I Yemi, I cook, bro. I cook For who?

Speaker 1:

People, dogs no, your goofy as hell. That's what I'm looking at.

Speaker 2:

What was you gonna say?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, cause Yemi's been on this whole.

Speaker 2:

Then you will travel from highways to byways through tunnels. Use the underground railroad just to make sure he has some of my food. Yes, but Because? Why? Why? This is not because me, as an older brother.

Speaker 1:

I feel like no, it's because you have this certain fixation. Yemi is literally one of these people. It doesn't matter who you are as a person. Like if you eat her food, she gonna have a problem. Like I'm really thinking about the day where you have your own family. Your child could eat off your plate and you will probably slap that motherfucker's hand.

Speaker 2:

No, no, no. So I see it, I see it, I see it.

Speaker 1:

I see it with Mariah.

Speaker 2:

No.

Speaker 1:

Mariah, yo, yo, baby, yo, everything, I see you, I see you. No, no, no, no, no. I share everything with my baby. That's my baby. I'll tell you, I'll tell you, I let you laugh, I let you laugh, I let you laugh. Let me say this it's not about me.

Speaker 2:

I don't have a problem with sharing my food. No, you do, please. I didn't interrupt you when you went. I let you laugh, right, I let you laugh. Hey I don't have a problem with sharing my food when, comma, you are eating it in front of me and you have let me know that you are going to eat it. What?

Speaker 1:

the hell is that that's regular, I will cook something.

Speaker 2:

And I will cook something and like if we, if I cook it and I'm eating and you like oh, let me just get some off your plate, no problem, right? Or if I cook something and I put it away and you like yummy, can I have some? Sure, but Deji will just like sneaky, sneaky ninja, eat my shit. And then I'll see a rapper for in the trash. That's going to upset me because I had intentions in my head on eating. That. That's a false narrative.

Speaker 2:

It's not a false narrative, that's a false narrative, that's what happened and that's why he bring that up, because he did that shit to me this week. That's why he bring this up, that's a false narrative.

Speaker 1:

I left some food.

Speaker 2:

I left a snack out because I was going to come back and eat it and I was taking it on my lunch box. So I will remember to eat it and then it would disappear. I forgot about it, but I went to throw something else away in the trash.

Speaker 1:

It wasn't in the trash, I left it on the kitchen counter actually.

Speaker 2:

So you left the rap, you left the evidence on the kitchen counter. Why? Cause you wanted to spite me.

Speaker 1:

No, I didn't want to spite you, I forgot about it, you forgot about it, I forgot. So let's say, let's take this one step further.

Speaker 2:

It was in the trash. I said you ate my chips with hoi cookies. Yes, it was cookies. I don't give a fuck if it was a Reese's cup. Don't eat my shit if it's my shit, ok. So let's think, or at least ask me first, just so I know. Ok, I don't have to worry about that food no more, because I was thinking I'm going to come downstairs and eat those cookies.

Speaker 1:

OK, so let's take it a step further. Yevvie's used so much of our stuff and I did trip about it, unless it was something really big. You know, like, say, a car, for instance, I don't need to go somewhere. You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 2:

Stuff like that, but you don't ever really need to use your car. When I will use it.

Speaker 1:

Sure, I would just say that. But you needed it more because, look at me, selfless Yevvie will do this thing where she'll make you try to feel bad for eating the food. For I mean, yeah, you can say what it was. I told him what it was For eating the snack, so Yevvie was over here. Y'all know, for those of y'all that do remote work or have to go into the office, I know y'all got that area where y'all got all the snacks and you could pop in, get a snack, put a load and then you take as many snacks as you want because you go snack on a train.

Speaker 1:

You go eating in your car, whatever. You take it back to the crib so you don't have to buy snacks for the week, whatever. Yeah, you eat them at your desk. Yevvie will both face lie and I will catch her in a lie and then she'll say it doesn't matter, did you?

Speaker 1:

You're wrong, so I ate those chips ahoy right, it was those little small little snack packs where there's maybe like five or six of the chips ahoy cookies in it. Yevvie over here talking about some danger, I bought that. I said, oh really, you paid a dollar. You paid a dollar for that. I was like Yevvie, you ain't paid no dollar. She's like, yes, I went to the 7-Eleven, I bought me the chips ahoy and now I can't eat it. I said, yevvie, why the fuck are you lying bro? I was like Lily in my head. I was like why are you lying? I said I know you went to your job. I know you went to your job. I know you walked into that motherfucking snack room and I knew you took about three or four, five of them and you brought one home and then she was like Dainty, that shit, don't matter, what you did was wrong.

Speaker 1:

And I said I'm not arguing with you, I'm not arguing the fact what I did was wrong, that's all it should be.

Speaker 2:

I would have to lie. We would have to be doing all this chakarane-ness. We would have to be doing all this mess If you would have just left my stuff alone.

Speaker 1:

But that's not the point I had. The point is if you know for a fact that you are just trying to make somebody feel worse yes, you didn't buy them cookies. You're not buying them chips, or?

Speaker 2:

like, even if.

Speaker 1:

I didn't buy them cookies.

Speaker 2:

Even if I didn't go two minutes to the 7-Eleven. It's worse, I had to go all the way to the office. You already know I don't like going into the office. My job says you have to go into the office. I don't want to be here, but I'm trying to compromise with these people. I don't want them to keep saying I'm not a team player. I don't want them to say, oh, she's not coming into the office, so I go into the office. Let my reward and let my gifts for going into the office Be the tripster who I cook and then I can eat when I come home. It's laughing, it's laughing, I'm laughing. I'm laughing because Yembe has I thought it'd be my gifts. I struggle from one to two nights. I go to the office, I sit there. I went to the office this day. Those people literally looked at me in my face and told me that Harry Styles' album was better than Beyonce.

Speaker 1:

Hey, I'm not listening. I'm not listening. We've had this Taylor Swift version of me. I tell you, you can't argue.

Speaker 2:

They looked at me in my face. I said I can't be here because I'm uncomfortable, because if these people are capable of saying this, what else are they capable of? And you have me breathing the same air as them. Let me go home. Let me go home. I tell you.

Speaker 1:

I just want to go to my bed. You can't trust people that are not of the culture. That's another story, that's another tangent. You feel me?

Speaker 2:

OK, ok, but all I'm trying to say is this right? I don't have a problem with sharing my stuff, but just one tell me, or two you're going to be dead.

Speaker 1:

This has been your whole entire life?

Speaker 2:

If it has been my whole entire life, why do you keep doing it? Because, look, you don't give a fuck. Just say you don't give a fuck, just say you don't give a fuck.

Speaker 1:

That's not what I'm trying to say. What you say is you don't give a fuck, so I'm passing it on these things just keep trying to teach me lessons, and I'm a grown ass woman.

Speaker 2:

Ain't nobody trying to teach you?

Speaker 1:

this lesson. Ain't nobody trying to teach you this lesson, but as a younger sibling and as a baby, knowing that you get spoiled, there's just certain due processes that you have. I understand that you feel some type of way. It's not like I'm eating your meals. I have never eaten a meal that Yemi's been looking forward to. Say damn Yemi, is she going to buy some Chipotle? I don't eat your Chipotle. I don't be eating an IEchileftover, something that you've already partake in IE.

Speaker 2:

See, that's what Yemi won't tell you, but those chips always was not open. That's a different thing, yemi.

Speaker 1:

Why are you talking about that? That's a separate issue. That's a separate issue.

Speaker 2:

Y'all is confused as to me. Drop a like or like something Just drop the issue.

Speaker 1:

Drop the issue. Ok, that's all I'm saying.

Speaker 2:

What I'm trying to say is two days for years will eat my food. I'm talking about two days would make them.

Speaker 1:

I would make a meal two days, would eat it Literally eat it in front of my face Like y'all don't understand.

Speaker 2:

If you make some noodles and you was letting them cool off and dry like you was letting them dry, don't leave them for too long, don't fuck with me If y'all that went to fucking all these.

Speaker 1:

Y'all remember the fucking Kirkwood fucking Hot Wigs boy? I used to eat the bitches every week, pop them in a microwave for six minutes, let them cool off for two minutes, them bitches gone. Y'all don't know that type of pain. Nigga would bottle me water and I would put barbecue sauce on. I used to be fucking smashing them. I used to have to buy two boxes because I had to learn the game plan Soon. They would eat the first box.

Speaker 2:

I would have the second box Now that I've learned from two days Y'all doing it to somebody else. What kind of shape are you? You should be shaped up yourself, what, what. But now you saw what happened.

Speaker 1:

Now you want to do it, but I do it smarter. You see what I said I do it smarter, I party faster. Why am I at?

Speaker 2:

the gym so high. Hey, we're open. They're some fucking chips.

Speaker 1:

They are some chips, you see it. I'm sorry, there's some fucking cookies.

Speaker 2:

They was fucking five. You're not going to die over five cookies. I never said I was going to die. Do you see what I'm saying?

Speaker 1:

I just say I was going to die. Don't let people make you feel bad. Ok, you already did.

Speaker 2:

You didn't think you wouldn't have felt bad if you wouldn't have aimed myself. I didn't feel bad. Let's pivot, let's pivot. Let me get back to Thanksgiving, right? So OK, what's on your Thanksgiving plate?

Speaker 1:

That's a good question.

Speaker 2:

What's on your first plate?

Speaker 1:

Well, it's interesting because since we've gotten it catered, it's different, right? The one year we did freaking casserole. I never fucking again, Never fucking. I don't know who. Black people just do regular yams with the brown sugar and the syrup.

Speaker 1:

Why the fuck I want all my sweet yams? Ok, all these marshmallows. Why the fuck are you all niggas trying to give me diabetes? Ok, I will throw that shit in the trash. And, honestly, when we had it that one year it was gone in the trash. Now I'm going to say this I love me some sweet potatoes, so I got to have that on my plate. I like turkey. Typically, we have spaghetti now and I always love spaghetti. I don't care if y'all don't think that's a Thanksgiving meal. That's a Thanksgiving dish or side for me.

Speaker 2:

People argue that that's not a side for Thanksgiving.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, there's a lot of people I mean. I feel like it's becoming more common, maybe because you can eat that every day, correct. Other than that, I mean I'm not too fond on turkey. You know, we African I got to give me some Jalof, so I usually, typically always have three plates, three full plates.

Speaker 2:

So you know, that's the first plate Episode should be called Gluttony. I think we already have an episode called that.

Speaker 1:

We don't have an episode called Gluttony. Ok, that's a good title, let's keep it in the bank. But yeah, that's my first plate. The second plate it will consist of the collard greens. I don't do dressing stuffing fuck that. I don't really care about that. No, I've never been big on it. Honestly, love me some collard greens. Then we get the mashed potatoes so I can mix them in with the collard greens, and then we put the cornbread on that plate as well, and then I'm going to. I try to partition, and y'all could think I'm crazy, but I've been trying to partition. I've been trying to partition I'm sorry, not partition, partition to get turkey off the menu.

Speaker 2:

I've really told let's do some big chicken or something.

Speaker 1:

That's what I remember. When I offered that and Tunde and Wanu were like my brother and his wife. They were like Deji, we fun to have turkey, like everybody likes turkey. I said, no, fuck that, get a rotisserie chicken Shit. You could do whatever you want with the chicken and I was just like yeah, and they was all like no, we not doing that. That's crazy, I'm not going to have a lot of motherfuckers will have ham. Y'all obsession with pork, I'm just trying to.

Speaker 2:

we could have roast beef, something different bro, yeah, and I was just like why we always got to do this, but nobody listened to me.

Speaker 1:

But that's what's on my mind. The third plate is anything that is nuanced at the Thanksgiving. I'll do it just to be polite. Try it. But I'm really doing it to be polite because I know if nobody eat it, at least I can say I eat it. But I usually pick at that plate and then I just throw it out, unless there's something really good, you got to put it upside down in the trash, can, correct, correct.

Speaker 2:

So that's usually how it goes for beef.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, I forgot about black eyed peas too. So yeah, yeah, yeah, because we usually have a pretty good spread, but, like I said, we get a cater. This is the first year we're not doing catering in the last three or four years. So what about you?

Speaker 2:

My plate consists of, like I said, just a little bit of turkey for fruity, and then I'm putting some cranberry sauce on that, because if it's dry I would need something to give it some, you know some. So one, two mashed potatoes. If they're garlic and they whips, it can't be from a box. It needs to be authentic mashed potatoes. You remember the one time we tried to make mashed potatoes from the box or from scratch? No, that was a good year that we actually cooked me and you cooked and we were the only two that ate it, because mom and dad went to somebody's house. We fucked that up. We fucked that thing's giving up.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so I know that was like right before.

Speaker 2:

that was the year Before COVID.

Speaker 1:

That's also why I don't like cooking Thanksgiving, because when we we used to do it. It took us all day and we used to do it for our parents and when they did that stupid ass shit and didn't tell us I'm not saying that there's yeah, because we were- like this year, we're going to make everything from scratch.

Speaker 2:

And we did, we're going to do it, we're just going to make you know, we just, we just, I don't know what got into us. We were bored we were bored, but I mean it wasn't. It wasn't COVID, it was before COVID. That's what I'm saying. We just, we just had time. We was like yeah, we're not going to make anything in the box. I think we just realized that it's up to us to we made stuffing out of scratch.

Speaker 1:

We use yes, we did we, because we use breadcrumbs. I bought breadcrumbs, yes, and I use the big ones that could not the like actual breadcrumbs. What are they called? Panko crumbs?

Speaker 2:

That's what I don't know. But yeah, we did everything from scratch that year and we, we did our big one but we were cooking to like seven, eight.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it was too late, too late, too late.

Speaker 2:

Because we didn't prepare like usually. You supposed to prepare beforehand, but we were kind of just like oh yeah, we're going to do it. So, but my plate? Yes, Mush potatoes. Gravy on the mashed potatoes. I need the sweet potatoes. Yeah, Super potato yams. I don't need souffle casserole. Don't put no marshmallows on my shit. They hear that we had that. That's that play. Was that? That panel was still full.

Speaker 1:

I was trying to give that away, like you don't want this.

Speaker 2:

No, girl, I don't want that because I wanted you would have seen me eating it. And I need my sweet potatoes right next to my mac and cheese, because I need that, that savory and that sweet, and I'm going to pick up both of them, put both of them on my fork and eat them together. Then I'm going to put some greens on there as well Cornbread, jalof rice, jerk chicken, if we have it. If not, we usually have ox tail. I'm going to give me a ox tail, that's it. I feel like I named everything. I'm only eating one plate to be to be quite honest. Last year I DJ'd Black Wednesday, so I was tired, hungover. After I ate my first plate, I took a nap on the couch.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, you did. You was knocked out.

Speaker 2:

I was knocked out because I was tired from DJing and then from the itis. I fell asleep. I don't know what was going on around me.

Speaker 1:

I can't remember. I can't remember.

Speaker 2:

That was a weird thing.

Speaker 1:

What's one thing you feel like they should add to Thanksgiving that is not normal, just in general. Or like food wise in general.

Speaker 2:

Both, let's do both food wise, something that I would like to eat, or Thanksgiving, maybe some fried. I would love some fried chicken or fried fish, but from sharks.

Speaker 1:

Okay, I can see that they probably do get some good orders that day too.

Speaker 2:

Some sharks or, you know, some lemon pep, because I feel like that would bang with the rest of the stuff on the plate, though that would fuck it up Fried catfish and some mashed potatoes.

Speaker 1:

I was thinking of lobster rolls. That would go crazy.

Speaker 2:

We just like lobster rolls. In general, People probably have seafood like Chanel. They used to do like seafood for Thanksgiving instead of doing like other stuff, because they're like we eat that all the time because they Jamaican. So yeah, but something that I would like to happen at Thanksgiving, I don't know. I feel like one year we did karaoke, music movies.

Speaker 1:

When I have posted our Thanksgiving's most of the time be like oh, y'all be lit, because they usually just end up being a big party.

Speaker 2:

Big party. Everyone's done eating.

Speaker 1:

So yeah.

Speaker 2:

I mean, I feel like I would prefer to do house hopping, to be honest. I do I mean, yeah, I would prefer to do that. That's an addition to Thanksgiving I would like to do. I would like to go to everybody's house to eat, but just to be in that community and hang out with people, because last year I fell asleep because I didn't want to be up and be like, active around people that we're with, because I remember one year we saw Jump in the Broom after Thanksgiving.

Speaker 2:

Oh, we went to the movie theaters. Was it after Thanksgiving or Christmas?

Speaker 1:

It was after Thanksgiving. It was after Thanksgiving, so we saw Jump in the Broom. No, we saw Queen and Slip the next day, yeah that was one Thanksgiving as well, so that's always been something typical. Yeah, that we have done as a family, which is crazy because we've made traditions with our brother but we don't necessarily have stuff with our mom and dad. But that's just a product of who our mom and dad are. They don't really care for us.

Speaker 2:

I don't know if I just think that my dad is not like a social person, but that's okay.

Speaker 1:

I mean, you could still have traditions, you could still do.

Speaker 2:

I'm excited this year because I have Wednesday off of work.

Speaker 1:

So do I. You don't typically always.

Speaker 2:

No, my company don't give us no days off, that's okay. But, I may take off Tuesday too.

Speaker 1:

Take the whole week off.

Speaker 2:

Right.

Speaker 1:

My fuckers already take too much of our time. No ways.

Speaker 2:

Because they was like you only use five days. You don't want to, we don't even want to talk.

Speaker 1:

I looked at my. There was two days that I called off this year and it makes sense where I'm at where I'm at Mentally.

Speaker 2:

Yes, I guess if you got a limited PTO, take it.

Speaker 1:

But that's the trick they will let you. That's the thing I've learned with unlimited PTO. They'll tell you that shit, knowing that you'll take less days, because you're like, oh, I could take off whenever you want, but the thing is you got to just start putting your foot in the sand. But what I was actually going to say is that it's interesting. With Thanksgiving, though, is the one activity I would like to get into that I have not yet, and I think part of it is because I don't have my own place, because I would be the only one to organize and actually kind of hone it out of my friend group.

Speaker 1:

Is a friend's giving Right? I feel like, as adults at this age, particularly at this age where people are living on their own, they're living with their spouse, they're trying to figure out what it means to them to kind of build their own family and identity, I feel like friends giving is a very cool thing. That came out about Thanksgiving, and it's just more so surrounded by the community. So I've always been interested to see what that looked like, because for me, friends giving would just be a really big party. I don't necessarily care about all Typically when it comes to holidays. I don't care about patentry. I don't really care about the decorations. All that I care about making sure we get everybody in a space so we could turn up.

Speaker 2:

I agree, I would do Friends Given too. I would throw all the parties.

Speaker 1:

Because I feel like in general out of my friend group you have to be the one to do it. I mean, people live on their own but they don't ever really host nothing. I'd be the one to be like. So, like yeah, and I'm like y'all been living by yourselves for years, but it seems like I get it People, man with black men kind of be weird sometimes that like, oh, this is my space, this is my fortune of solitude, that's cool.

Speaker 2:

I just think they don't keep it clean enough to be having people over.

Speaker 1:

No, I got some pretty clean niggas.

Speaker 2:

I just think you should be saying niggas and keep talking about white people too.

Speaker 1:

So I don't know, and you know why are you lying? I mean, what's the last white face? You've actually seen me kick it with. Yeah, think about it.

Speaker 2:

I haven't seen you kick it with nobody Shut up. You're a lazy. You're leaving the house, you lie.

Speaker 1:

See you just be talking about your ass bro. You be talking. I watch y'all to realize that everything that this woman say to the left of me, if this was video recorded to the left of me, to the right of me.

Speaker 2:

Look at the camera. There ain't no camera. Look at the camera and talk to them.

Speaker 1:

She is telling you she wants. She's a little sister so you got to realize big mouth, but it's always like there's always a hint of like lies in it. You feel me Like if you.

Speaker 2:

I said there's a hint of lies.

Speaker 1:

I didn't call you a liar because if it was up to you, what?

Speaker 2:

does a liar, do you over here? You over here?

Speaker 1:

thinking like I'm a KKK associate. Member of some shit.

Speaker 2:

What does a liar do? They lie, they lie, but that's so. If I lie, then what am I?

Speaker 1:

I just want you all to know that at the end of the day, yeah when I see yummy eat off either my niece or my nephews plate, I'm going to look at her and say, see, hypocrite, I don't eat off, they play yummy, your, you be capping, bro. I've seen you just take food off. They play. I really haven't. I don't think you know what you're talking about. I definitely do, but we talk about Thanksgiving, okay Right. So what is your most memorable moment?

Speaker 2:

from.

Speaker 1:

Thanksgiving out of all the Thanksgiving's we had.

Speaker 2:

So I don't know.

Speaker 1:

I feel like we talked about the ones that I think are memorable, like the year that we cooked or we could talk about the first time we met today's wife, and we didn't know it at the time.

Speaker 2:

You can talk about that for your memory, but I was thinking about the one year.

Speaker 2:

No, I mean yeah, if that's your favorite memory you can talk about it, but I didn't think about that I thought about the one year where mom made a salad and she opened a bag of premixed salad and poured it into a tupperware and said she made salad. That was funny to me. I don't know. That's what my brain went to, because I mean memorable Thanksgiving. I really just think about the year that we cooked the whole thing by ourselves, because we really what I did I did a lot of the work and did you was a great sushi.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I mean, stop lying to the people, I actually cooked because you lied. Who peeled the potatoes, who boiled the potatoes, who smashed the potato chef, chef duties smashed the potatoes, and then I also whipped the mashed potatoes.

Speaker 2:

So I literally, but you with the way about no, no, yummy what a whisk. What a way. Yes, well, yeah. So what's, what was your favorite Thanksgiving memory? Daigee.

Speaker 1:

Favorite Thanksgiving memory? I feel like there's so many. That wasn't a favorite memory, that was just I always think I'm a memorable memory, because I look at them from this time standpoint of like how I grew up as a like Daigee. I remember that because we were super, super young and today just took us to this person's house 13 years ago. Yeah, and we were playing scene it. That's why I remember that. So I'm like, oh, that's cool when I was 12 years ago, 12 years ago, I'm 28, 14.

Speaker 1:

So I think about stuff like that, but then I also think about that.

Speaker 2:

Isn't that crazy, like someone has literally watched you grow since you were a teenager and you know, you know, I mean like, but I think about that with my friends all the time.

Speaker 1:

Oh, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I think about that, like with my line sisters, like they literally see me when I was 18 and I'm not that anymore. So it's like you hear me, you're not, it's okay, you don't have to how old are you actually why? Yeah me please so yeah, so, like you said, we're playing scene it.

Speaker 1:

So that's the time I really remember. Like I said, remember when we seen jump.

Speaker 2:

Thanks giving her Christmas.

Speaker 1:

That, was that really the same to?

Speaker 2:

me, the only difference is on Christmas. We don't eat like a meal, we just be in community, correct?

Speaker 1:

Thanksgiving when we saw jump in the broom. I remember that because we went to country club.

Speaker 2:

Hills we got Bobo, I think it was. I think it was Friday, no it wasn't, but it's okay.

Speaker 1:

When we saw Queen and Slim, I remember that that was a terrible. I remember that the only thing that made it worth it is that we all all had the same reaction.

Speaker 2:

We were last five minutes I'm telling you me today. Why do you got up and walk out the?

Speaker 1:

theater, the whole theater went up, though they was all like what the fuck? Like every. It was the coolest experience. Yeah, because it was all. A whole bunch of black people say like this fucking. So that was a very.

Speaker 2:

we literally got up and walked out. I think I made a walk. I might have walked back in, just so I could see how it ended, but I had already missed some stuff because I walked out much.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, honestly, I'm going to the other kind of the laugh. If I had, it was so funny because the hype was crazy.

Speaker 2:

Lena with had our own website.

Speaker 1:

I mean the promo rollout. The the remote was crazy just for the movie to be like ass.

Speaker 2:

No, I mean like the whole movie wasn't bad. We've talked about this before on the podcast. Of course, the scene with the cops and the boy and then the last like 10 minutes was trash, but everything else was cute, like the segmentography, the story, like I'm really thinking that these niggas gonna get away and you both face shot them, yeah, in our fucking faces, as if we didn't see. Yeah, trayvon Martin.

Speaker 1:

George Floyd.

Speaker 2:

George Floyd, like I think, I think this was after, this was before George Floyd, but that wasn't the last incident of of police brutality, you know. So it was just weird to see life in film when we watch stuff on TV to escape reality, correct, and I'm not saying that, like, art does not reflect reality, because movies is art. I'm just saying, like, you had the opportunity to give us a happy ending because we already don't see it in real life, and you dropped the ball. And that was the day I stopped fucking with Lena, with and then she.

Speaker 1:

She tried to come back on Masters of the season three and I, which ages better as you rewatch it. I'll say that, but still, what the fuck?

Speaker 2:

and also, let's talk about Thanksgiving.

Speaker 1:

Our favorite episode, yes, so that's so now I feel like we talked about Thanksgiving on the podcast before we talked about how it's one of our favorite episodes, but I don't think we talked about how it actually came about, as it becoming a Thanksgiving tradition for us or even just like Thanksgiving.

Speaker 2:

No, I'm saying like I feel like we talked about Thanksgiving, the holiday, as an episode, if we have. You know, we've said new stuff. It's been a long year for us, sorry.

Speaker 1:

I mean, we also haven't been recording this consistently, so y'all should just be happy to hear our voices. No, I'm joking.

Speaker 2:

And that's a period.

Speaker 1:

But yeah, we probably did have a Thanksgiving episode. But you know, you live and you learn. How did the Thanksgiving episode become tradition?

Speaker 2:

if you guys have not. I think we might have just talked about our favorite, like TV shows or something.

Speaker 1:

That's probably what it was.

Speaker 2:

That's probably what it was.

Speaker 1:

For those of you who haven't watched it, it's on. It's called Masters of Nuns, so pretty much a dramedy is what they call it, or a comedy yeah, a drama comedy based around a person named Dev and his friends and they live in New York and they go through basically life, but it's from the minority standpoint, first generation standpoint Older millennials.

Speaker 2:

Older millennials Correct, but very very great story.

Speaker 1:

Very great story, very beautifully shot, a lot of things, and it actually has one of our favorite episodes, which I don't know, how it became a tradition.

Speaker 2:

But basically, I mean it's called Thanksgiving. Yes, why not watch it on Thanksgiving? So?

Speaker 1:

that, yeah, that's what it is and it's a coming of age story, but every Thanksgiving something happens differently and it's a really beautiful, beautiful story.

Speaker 2:

Like Lena, waithe needs to stay in that bag.

Speaker 1:

Correct.

Speaker 2:

That particular bag and don't go anywhere else, don't shift anywhere else, don't give us nothing else. How stay here?

Speaker 1:

But yeah, it's a really beautiful episode.

Speaker 2:

You watch it, yeah we talked about it before, so we won't go. So I would just say y'all watch it.

Speaker 1:

Y'all could give us y'all feedback.

Speaker 2:

I mean For y'all. Definitely let us know your feedback after you watch it, if you've been listening this far, and make sure you throw that away.

Speaker 1:

So yes, Find a business, yeah, but that would probably be my favorite. I guess that's my favorite things because I always make sure, I always make sure no matter how through high water. No matter before I go to bed, I wash that.

Speaker 2:

Whenever it's how we come home.

Speaker 1:

I wash that episode. Yeah, and as long as Masters of Nine is on.

Speaker 2:

Netflix.

Speaker 1:

I'll probably have to buy it, if they never, just so I could keep tradition alive.

Speaker 2:

But it's stuff like something you're going to show your kids. Are you going to show kids watch? Yeah, I feel like that episode is safe for kids to watch.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, why not? I mean, I would wait for them to be of a certain age where they could understand what is actually going on.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I mean to sit down with them, for sure, but yeah, but in general.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so that's a beautiful episode. That's a story of family, love, acceptance, growth. I mean it kind of has everything mixed all up into it and a whole bunch of, like you know, resolution, which sometimes I don't think people talk about it enough. The reason why we like shows like this is because there is resolution Oftentimes in our own lives. We have to wait.

Speaker 2:

Yeah and be patient for our resolution, but in these shows it's you get it in 30 minutes, and I will talk about that because that's that's really like something that I've been dealing with a lot lately, like I'm living what I watched on TV, like what I grew up, like what raised me, like I was raised by TV, to be quite honest, which is why my personality is the way that it is, but I'm starting to realize that yo, like these adults that I was watching when I was like 10, 9, 8 years old, is who I am now. Like I'm dealing through adult shit and it's like it might not be resolved in 30 minutes, like I was raised to believe and that's crazy to me, it really won't.

Speaker 2:

That's crazy to me because I'm like damn, I'm an adult and it. I feel like I be jumping in and out of spaces of like knowing that I'm an adult, even though fully I know that I'm 27 years old. But there's some, there's some aspects of my life where I feel like, ooh, I'm still this age, but fully, like damn, this shit is. I don't think I've watched the show that has anything that directly is parallel to my life, but just like realizing that like damn, this would be an episode of a TV show but it's not resolved in 30 minutes.

Speaker 2:

So yeah, that's that's. That's interesting that you said that, because I'd be having like that mental that not block, but I just be thinking about that often.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I'm in a season where I'm thinking, where I'm in that right now and it's it's, it's the worst. I can see why people don't like uncertainty, because when you're in a season where you're not able to handle, it is kind of gives you like, am I going to make it through? Like, what is the resolution? What is the conclusion? You can have faith, you can have all the positive, all that stuff, but you know, the one thing about life is it's gonna life and sometimes you don't know how life is gonna life. You, you feel me, but yeah, no, I think it's a. I think it's a. I think, when it comes to Thanksgiving, that episode especially we see all those things right like we see which, if we were actually paying attention, we see that the resolution actually took decades or years, which, okay, that would make it make sense but like yeah, no, I get it, yemi yeah.

Speaker 1:

I guess that's Yemi's humble flex or humble brag, whatever.

Speaker 2:

It wasn't a brag, it wasn't a flex. I literally, if anything, I think it's to my own detriment Like I was raised to not believe, because I don't think I even believed that then. But I was raised to believe that there is a resolution for some of the stuff that you go through and things will just fall into place. They do and they do. They fall into a place. It might not be the place that you want them to, but they do fall somewhere.

Speaker 1:

But I think that's the thing that sometimes we forget, specifically during the holidays, because everything is Hallmark right, specifically throwing into Thanksgiving. Everything is about thanks, like you should be so grateful, which is true, but the journey to being thankful and gratitude is a motherfucker Like. There's a lot of things that you have to learn to let go of and accept because that's what reality is right.

Speaker 2:

Well, I'm thankful for where I am right now. And I'm thankful for all the things that this year has given me. You know it's November, it's the second to last month of the year. Next week, two weeks from now, we're gonna be celebrating Daisy's birthday. I'm thankful for this nigga right here as much as he gets on my nerves and pisses me off. But you know I wouldn't want to see her.

Speaker 1:

You see how, even as this is a big brother right. Yes, me and my coworkers were talking and you know we were doing the whole company, like we were doing the team hot social hour or whatever. And they're like oh, let's talk about everything you are thankful for. And people were saying obviously most people were saying they're families and then everything. And then it got to me and I was like sure I'll tell you what I'm thankful for.

Speaker 1:

I said for my sister. I said, and you see how she just everybody listen to what she said begrudgingly Me. I was very straightforward. I said look, I'm very thankful for my sister in this year of this life that I've experienced this age of 28. You know, I'm in the middle of my Saturn return and everything that they say about that bitch I'm telling y'all right now is 100% true. But I was like, yeah, I'm so happy that I've been able to experience and enjoy life with my sister in this year of 28. Cause, honestly, if I look at it holistically, this for most people would be a really good year. You know, this would be a really great year for them.

Speaker 1:

You know, like what I've been able to accomplish, what I've been able to see you accomplish, and where we're going from a projectory standpoint. It would make you feel like, wow, there is a lot of good coming down the pipeline.

Speaker 2:

Yes.

Speaker 1:

Right, and in addition to that, I'm saying that because, basically, what I said is like I'm very happy that my sister and I are able to enjoy life. We were both fortunate enough to go to Afro Tech and there was this moment in Afro Tech where we both daft each other and honestly, I'm telling y'all this was like I've been going through a season, but like that moment was enough for me to be like, yeah, I can keep on pushing for as long as I need to, because life be worth it. You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 2:

Is that you remember what that moment was?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so we was at. So we ain't even really talk about it, but we were at Afro Tech. Right, and basically Afro Tech was the combination of what me and Yemi are as people, which is basically we are very charming. Basically I would call us unicorns when it comes to a social setting. But besides all that, we just are ultimate finesses. Like there's no way we're not gonna find a way to make sure that the situation is conducive to us. So Yemi and I, we was at Afro Tech. This was the second or third day. It was Friday, that's all I remember.

Speaker 1:

Friday Yemi found out that one of her favorite artists at the time, or I should say right now. Ombre was performing at Soho House, austin she's a member. They was doing all this woopla wahala type shit, talking about some. You can't use your one off right now because of blah, blah blah. You need to talk to the house, the house needs to communicate with us. Blah, blah, blah all a whole bunch of bullshit. So, me being me, I kind of let Yemi do the talking. Then I walk over to this door because I was just gonna walk in with this other dude who was talking, who was going to this.

Speaker 2:

I'm giving them play by play A different event. He was going to a different event at Soho House.

Speaker 1:

And we was talking up to buddy and he's like, oh, y'all having a hard time Cause he's like this Soho House don't even be cracking like that. Blah, blah, blah.

Speaker 2:

And then buddy was like what's up about that?

Speaker 1:

at different days and bloody was like come on, just come with me and I'll say salute. This is why that was one of my favorite things I learned about AvroTech. One thing about Black people is that we were always finesse the situation for one another. But that dude got us in, but we didn't really need to get in because Yemi's a member. So then we got up and then it was. It was giving Tiny Desk vibes you know what I'm saying. Like it was so intimate, it was almost surreal, like it was literally some shit. You see, it was something you saw in a movie, if we're going to be quite frank.

Speaker 2:

Like yeah, like it's giving 90s, like Love Jones. Not a diary, a diary of a man. Yeah, my diaries of a man, black woman.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, yeah, If you know that stole. What's her name? Alison Stone, or is there Angie Stone? Angie Stone?

Speaker 2:

but that was.

Speaker 1:

Family Reunion. Family Reunion, but damn it.

Speaker 2:

It was giving a vibe like that, like a 90s romantic comedy, which is such my vibe, oh my goodness. But yeah, I think that's the moment that we realized, like this is the stuff that we're supposed to be doing. We're exactly where we need to be Correct, correct. So yeah. I'm thankful for that. But, I mean, I said that in my language, you said in your language, but we're saying the exact same thing.

Speaker 1:

No, we are not saying the same exact thing. Oh, how could I say that I had a moment that literally encouraged me to keep on, keeping on.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

And then you said as much as this motherfucker pissed me off, yes, and annoying me, yes, I'm still incredibly like what the fuck are you? Listening to.

Speaker 2:

Okay, just as you said that in that moment, don't mean that you didn't just come for my life and call me a liar, and call me a selfish ass bitch because I didn't let you eat my chocolate chip cookies.

Speaker 1:

What are you talking about? You did it. I had to eat them off. The strength yeah, I had to eat them off the strength.

Speaker 2:

The strength of what Me oh Okay, so you see what I'm saying, people, but yes, I'm very grateful and thankful for Deji and having him in my life Period. No butts, no ants, no, nothing. Thank you for being my brother. You didn't have a choice. But it's more than just blood with us. That's why we are talking to y'all. That's nothing but a G thing, cause it's more than just excuse me. We share the same DNA.

Speaker 1:

I appreciate that. I appreciate you and I'm very thankful for you.

Speaker 2:

Amen.

Speaker 1:

Amen, and that's the resolution of this podcast. Anyways, now it's time to move on to the ghetto intellectual question.

Speaker 2:

Y'all heard it a little bit earlier, but let's circle back. Yeah, let's circle back. Ghetto intellectual question If you bring food to the potluck to the Thanksgiving dinner to the Christmas dinner, to the Easter, and it goes untouched. Do you feel like you can take it with you when you leave? Or do you feel like, okay, you ride it and that's it?

Speaker 1:

My answer is because I've actually done this.

Speaker 2:

Yes, you have every right to take that shit back, especially if nobody ate it it was a dessert.

Speaker 2:

Like, if it's a main dish and it was nasty and that's why nobody touched it, they gonna let you take it regardless, but it's because nobody ate it. In that moment, yeah, and they knew they was gonna come back to it they was like, oh yeah, no, you can't, take nobody, you can't. But that's why I said, with the banana cupcakes, the banana pudding cupcakes, I'm gonna stash a couple in the house first, Cause you telling me I'm paying $98 for some cupcakes and I'm only gonna be able to eat one.

Speaker 1:

So typically what they say is if you are gonna bring something, if you're gonna make it, always make extra so you can have some. But if you're gonna buy some yeah.

Speaker 2:

That's it.

Speaker 1:

Honestly, I would buy some, and who cares if it's 12, if it's fucking 18. I'm gonna put it in the container that it looked like two dozen.

Speaker 2:

You know what?

Speaker 1:

I'm saying Like that's, if you count every single one, we got a problem.

Speaker 2:

That's all you you'll be like. Why is there something missing? Because I paid $100 for 24 cupcakes and you think I'm paying $100 for 24 cupcakes and only eating one. You don't know who I am, for real.

Speaker 1:

And that's your fault and that's I really feel like people that get upset at you for doing so. Hey, man one, I don't really care. Honestly, sometimes I'm like why are you tripping? Are you finna eat it? Cause the people who usually tend to trip is-.

Speaker 2:

Yes, I don't want to just try to save it for the trip.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and I'm like I didn't buy this shit for you to have free groceries.

Speaker 2:

If it's really informal or wrong to want to take something that you bought that nobody touched afterwards. Okay, let it be, but if it was like pop, they'd be like okay, you can take that, cause you know my friends don't really be like oh yeah, let me save pop. People be like I don't even drink pop. Yeah, but it's because it's some cake and some ice cream. You can take that with you.

Speaker 1:

I specifically especially when you bought the dessert. I'm one of them people that.

Speaker 2:

I will buy something, not no, you're the only one that's going to eat it Exactly.

Speaker 1:

Hey, if y'all know that, if y'all know good or well, if you know good or well, that's not shame on me. I'll be like, look, I'm going to bring this and they'll be like cool, I think people will eat that. You know what damn well I'm the only one, See the thing is about. It is you got to know your situations, people? One thing I've always done is that I will go into a setting and I'll find a way to make it work for me especially when it comes to the food.

Speaker 1:

Cause I'm not even the right word. Choice Shea B. I want this. You know what I'm saying?

Speaker 2:

That's what's really important I want this.

Speaker 1:

If you do not want it because you know pound cake and ice cream is a beautiful combo I'll be trying to tell people.

Speaker 1:

But when nobody wanted, it at the time y'all was just like that's gross. I want to have this sweet potato, I want to have this apple pie. Y'all want to have apahalo mode. Have y'all apahalo mode. I'm going to have my pound cake and ice cream, please, and thank you. And then, if I see, nobody touched it, I just got me another loaf. That's it. That's all I have to say. Ok, I'm going to move it on.

Speaker 2:

So you have a, I have a thing I said and did you on Twitter, but you haven't been on social media.

Speaker 1:

I've probably seen it.

Speaker 2:

No, I don't know you haven't been on social media.

Speaker 1:

Well, ask me about it. I've probably seen it. I'm not saying that I've been.

Speaker 2:

So it's this video and it says the sun at 530 said, and it's a video of Jennifer Hudson walking away after she was singing heavy from Dream Girls.

Speaker 1:

Heavy, heavy. Her walking offset. Yeah, why do you think I'm saying that? Oh?

Speaker 2:

because they like savings. They like savings, it's just it's definitely hit my ass.

Speaker 1:

I'm not going to lie to you it just hit so hard.

Speaker 2:

It was no transition, it was just. It's never really a transition, right? First of all, we voted to end Daylight Savings, so why are we still moving?

Speaker 1:

Did we?

Speaker 2:

really yes, we voted in the last election to end Daylight Savings, so that means it didn't pass. No, it did. We voted on it.

Speaker 1:

Why do I? I feel like that should have been bigger news.

Speaker 2:

The government does what they want to do and they reinstated us through the loans. We got to pay them back now. I voted for George. Excuse, my excuse my raised voice, but I voted for George. What's the?

Speaker 1:

name George.

Speaker 2:

George Joe Biden. There we go. I'm going to let you get there. I voted for him because he said he was going to take away student loans. I want my vote back. I'm not going to hold you.

Speaker 1:

I tried to log into my stuff two days ago and it said I didn't have an account and I said hm.

Speaker 2:

No, you just used the wrong email. No, they said we're going to start your automatic payments.

Speaker 1:

You got to pay $70. Because I even did it by my social security number and then I was like hm.

Speaker 2:

I was like, if y'all lost my info, just let me know that, just let me know, and you know you're not going to put a question mark what God put up here, yeah exactly. But they said they're going to start taking automatic payments from me and I'm going to just switch my credit card.

Speaker 2:

I mean, I know my card is not the same that I used to I'm going to just put a different credit card, Because when I went to fill out that thing and they said we're giving you $0. I said you got me fucked up. So now that I make money you want to take it from me? Yeah, they do. I might as well just go and be broke, or I just make less money. I won't call anybody who has to pay, who doesn't have to pay back their student loans. I'm just saying I might as well just go and have no money, Because you guys are going I have to give you this money back. You'll have me fucked up. Anyways, that's it for things I send to you on Twitter, and I think that's about the end of the show.

Speaker 1:

It is the end of the show.

Speaker 2:

Thank you for staying with us and thank you for listening. The one thing that Issa Rae said that I love so much is she said I don't do announcements, I don't do coming soon, I just drop my shit and you'll see it when you see it. And that's the exact same thing that the man, the CEO of Revolt TV, said. He was like we don't do cadences, we just drop when we drop and we let people see it when they see it, but you can do that when you've gotten to a certain point, right?

Speaker 2:

Of course, of course, and I'm not saying that we're there yet. I'm just saying we got to start thinking like the bosses do and that's why we do what we do. And it was a writer strike, so you faulted us. And there was writers. We didn't have our writers because they were on strike, I hear you. So all the content is coming out. Now. We have YouTube videos that are that are literally live, that you have not seen, that you can watch. We're posting when we went to Afro Tech, when we went to Atlanta, when we went to Puerto Rico, when we went to Do we dream?

Speaker 1:

Well, we did already.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Did you do your solo trip?

Speaker 2:

Where did I go?

Speaker 1:

Alabama.

Speaker 2:

I don't even think I blog there, but if I did, that's coming too, so you have content that's coming from us. So just stay in tune. If you are not seeing it because you don't follow us on Instagram, you need to follow us on Instagram. My Instagram is sukijies s-u-k-i-g. Double easy, Because I make everything that I try look twice as easy. I'm also on TikTok now. It's DJ sukijies, so DJ s-u-k-i-g. Double easy.

Speaker 1:

Speaker 2:

Yes, happy Thanksgiving to you. Make sure y'all eat all the good food and if you have a family that makes you not want to have a good Thanksgiving come up and grab a plate. Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Not at our house, but at one of your people's house, soho, does that.

Speaker 2:

Soho has a Thanksgiving feast. We have to pay for it, but also it's for people who are away from home don't want to go back home, don't like their family, and soho house is a good vibe. Yeah, and they have good food. Like we went there, we went to eat the feast at the one in Austin. And the food was decent.

Speaker 1:

So they had banana pudding, they had banana pudding, they did, and it was really good actually too.

Speaker 2:

So we had eight before we went there, so we didn't eat too much, but next time we know.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, maybe next time we talk about Afro Tech.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, we'll see, but we already talked about it twice.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, because we dropped it. We are dropping a video of our reaction.

Speaker 2:

We dropped the review and we are dropping our vlog, so the podcast would be the third time. Ah.

Speaker 1:

I completely forgot that we did a review. We did a review of vlog. Oh yeah, we had a met. We had a wonderful time at Afro Tech.

Speaker 2:

It was cool. We had a wonderful time in Austin.

Speaker 1:

Afro Tech we'll have to yes, austin, yes, it's been great, it's been another video thing. Y'all have a good Thanksgiving. Bye, keep it lovely.

Speaker 2:

Because ain't nothing but a cheap thing, baby, to low down G, so we crazy Death grow against the label. That pays man Unfadable. So please don't try to fade this. But I'm back to the lecture at Haynes.
